We very much regret that the "True Copy" performances of the Belgian troupe BERLIN had to be cancelled. For several days now, Belgium has been on the list of countries and areas with an increased risk of infection published by the Federal Office of Public Health. Despite our combined efforts to be able to show the production at the Theaterfestival, we have received the news today that the performances on September 3 and 4 at neuestheater.ch in Dornach will unfortunately not be able to take place.
Tickets already purchased in advance can be returned directly to the respective advance booking office. We thank you for your understanding.
In 1994, the arrest of the Dutch master forger Geert Jan Jansen shook the art world: The police discovered over 1600 works signed by Picasso, Appel, Matisse, Chagall and others. Jansen had spent over twenty years copying countless works so skilfully that he was able to deceive the entire world of art. In some cases, the authenticity of the works had even been confirmed by the artists themselves. Although so many forgeries were and still are in circulation, many collectors and institutions only took the matter to court after being instructed to do so by the police. Some of them still believe in the authenticity of the works to this day.
The BERLIN theatre company creates amazing multimedia performances that tell the story of fascinating people. In the multi-layered portraits, theatre and reality blend together and become indistinguishable. In their latest work of sheer brilliance «True Copy», they let the prolific forger Jansen speak for himself and reflect on the dazzling question of fake and authentic: What is true when the untruth is more inviting, what is reality when fiction sounds more convincing?
