Our 2022 programme board

(from top left to bottom right: Katharina Germo, Sandro Lunin, Rucera Seethal, Makiko Yamaguchi, Angela Osthoff, Sankar Venkateswaran)
As summer approaches, we take this opportunity to introduce you to this year's programme board!
In the last two years, the global cultural scene has been heavily burdened by the effects of the pandemic. Programming an international festival under these circumstances has been very challenging, as travelling to view new productions has been almost impossible. Fortunately, we added three new international curators to our programme board last year, whose expertise has greatly enriched the programme and broadened our perspectives in many ways. The artistic director of the theatre festival, Sandro Lunin, shares many years of intensive exchange and cooperation experience with all three: Rucera Seethal from Johannesburg is a curator and journalist. She directs the National Arts Festival in South Africa and is a former staff member of Pro Helvetia's Liaison Office in Johannesburg. Makiko Yamaguchi is a dramaturg and communications expert from Tokyo, also a long-time director of the Japan / Southeast Asia exchange programme of the Japan Foundation and dramaturg of the renowned Japanese director Toshiki Okada. Sankar Venkateswaran is an internationally active director and festival organiser with his own theatre house in the mountains between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The programme board also includes the dramaturge of ROXY Birsfelden, Katharina Germo and the dramaturge of Theater Basel, Angela Osthoff. In this way, all three of Basel's larger theatres for contemporary performing arts are now actively involved in the festival.
We are not yet revealing which exciting and diverse productions the programme board has invited to the festival from 24 August to 4 September. But on 20 June the programme will be released and we will reveal the secret! Check back on our website then, it's worth it!
