Getting here by railway
Basel is a scant one hour train journey from Zurich, Freiburg or Strasbourg. Basel SBB (Basel’s main railway station) is ideally positioned in the heart of the city. Basel Badischer Bahnhof (Basel`s german railway station) is closer to the festival centre and ideally for festival-visitors from the north. If you’re travelling from the North, DEUTSCHE BAHN operate direct train services into Basel from Frankfurt, Berlin or Hamburg. For more information go to www.bahn.de For rail travel options from Switzerland, visit SBB, The Swiss Railway at www.sbb.ch.
Getting here by airplane
EuroAirport Basel/Mulhouse is served by all domestic carriers and several international operators like Lufthansa or AirFrance. The airport is easy to reach from the city, located just 5km north of Basel city centre. Busline 50 takes you to Basel in not even 20 minutes to Basel SBB.
Getting around
Basel is a compact city, ideal for pedestrians, and a delight to walk through – most venues are located in the city centre. Remember to always carry a venues map with you and you’ll soon work out the main areas where performances are taking place. Basel has plenty of cyclists, so if you’re thinking of bringing your bike along you will be in good company. If you require transportation the network of buses and tramlines is excellent, covering not just the city but also its outskirts; most venues are never far from a bus stop. Single fares cost CHF 3.20 but if you’re using the bus on more than two journeys then just get an all-day ticket with unlimited travel for CHF 8.50. For more information on routes and timetables go to www.bvb.ch.
